Kantate auf Christi Geburt
Opus 48, 1888
The cantata is an example from the end of the 19th century for reforms which sought to again give more importance to singing in worship services for both choir and congregation, even in the most modest circumstances. Ludwig Meinardus rejected the use of soloists and contented himself with the organ as the accompanying instrument. The cantata can be performed as a whole, but it may also be integrated into a liturgical service.
