Beethoven

Choral music by Ludwig van Beethoven

He is one of the most influential composers in the history of music: Ludwig van Beethoven. 2027 sees the 200th anniversary of his death. To mark this important anniversary, Carus has planned several initiatives to celebrate Beethoven as a choral composer. Here’s an update for you!

With the Beethoven vocal project, Carus has made Beethoven's choral music accessible: the Missa solemnis, which Beethoven himself considered one of his most important works, as well as the Mass in C major. The work opens up worlds of expression that extend far beyond Beethoven's time. Both masses are available in modern Urtext editions. Carus also offers a modern, performance-oriented piano reduction of the final movement of the 9th Symphony. Beethoven's only oratorio, Christus am Ölberge, is available too. Rehearsals of these large and sometimes demanding works are supported by practice aids such as the carus music app, the Choir Coach, and practice CDs.

In addition, the Carus catalog also includes numerous choral compositions suitable for smaller chamber choirs. The Choral Collection Beethoven contains 41 secular and sacred choral settings – some by Beethoven himself, some arrangements by others of his instrumental works from the last three centuries and for choirs of all sizes.
