Composer Peter Schindler on this separate edition from Perpetuum mobile:
“O golden Venus! You are a cruel goddess; your torch burns me up. Why do you rage like this and hurt me?” We don't know exactly what has happened to this woman, but she is in agony. This love lament is a harrowing song of pain. She sings of being rejected, she feels close to death. She would rather die than endure such a life any longer.
Unrequited love! An eternal literary theme. You can't love without exposing yourself to the risk of being hurt. Perhaps that was the case with this woman. Whatever happened, the lento to text 103 in the Codex Buranus can be acted out dramatically, operatically. The audience should have compassion for the abandoned woman.
