Maria durch ein Dornwald ging
Recommended by Anne Kohler
In addition to performing as a tenor in numerous vocal ensembles, Sebastian Döring regularly writes for a cappella ensembles. When Anne Kohler, a conductor who loves both classical and popular choral music, rehearsed Döring’s jazzy arrangement of Maria durch ein Dornwald ging with her ensemble Pop-up, she was so impressed that she suggested it to Carus for publication. The ear-catching jazz harmonies (tensions) fit the melodic lines exceptionally well. Only moderate rehearsal time is needed due to the numerous repeated accompanying motifs.

Frequent questions about this work
How difficult is the piece?
Although the harmonic design of the arrangement can be categorised as jazz/pop, the harmonic extensions (tensions) quickly catch the ear and are well integrated into the melody lines. Numerous repetitive accompaniment motifs further reduce the rehearsal effort.
